Privacy notice

What violabs.co.uk collects and keeps: no cookies, no analytics, two optional settings in your browser, and web server logs kept for 14 days.

This notice covers violabs.co.uk. It says what the site collects, why, how long it is kept, and what you can ask us to do about it.

Who we are

Vio Labs LTD is the controller of the personal data described here. The company is registered in England and Wales, company number 17466165, with its registered office at 128 City Road, London EC1V 2NX.

To ask about your data or make a request, email contact@violabs.co.uk or write to us at the registered office.

Cookies

This site sets no cookies. There is no analytics, no advertising and no tracking pixel. It loads no scripts, fonts or embedded content from other sites: every file comes from violabs.co.uk.

Settings kept in your browser

The site can keep two values in your browser's local storage, each only after you do something:

  • violabs-theme: set when you press the light or dark button, to remember your choice.
  • violabs-notice: set when you close the notice about cookies and privacy, so it is not shown again.

They stay on your device and are never sent to us. They exist only to remember something you asked the site to do, so they do not need your consent. If you would rather nothing is kept, do not press the button or close the notice. You can remove them at any time by clearing the site data for violabs.co.uk in your browser.

Server logs

The web server records each request in an access log: your IP address, the time, the address requested, whether it succeeded, the page you came from (the referrer) and your browser's user agent string. If a request causes an error, the server's error log also records your IP address. We use the logs to run the site and keep it secure, for example to find errors and spot abuse. Both logs are rotated daily, and each day's log is kept for 14 days after that day ends and then deleted.

The legal basis is our legitimate interest in running a secure website.

Hosting

The site runs on a dedicated server that OVH SAS hosts for us in France. The server logs are kept there. UK law recognises the European Economic Area as giving personal data adequate protection.

The game servers

The same server runs the online play server for Boltfront, our game for iPhone and Android. It also runs the jam server for VioSound, our music game for iPhone and Android. The apps connect to these servers through this website, so the web server records each connection in the access log described above, with the same details, and deletes it on the same schedule. What each app and its server handle is set out in the Boltfront privacy policy and the VioSound privacy policy.

Email

If you email contact@violabs.co.uk, we use your address and what you write to reply to you. The mailbox is provided by Purelymail, a service of Add Rabbit LLC. We keep correspondence only for as long as we need it to deal with what you asked. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in answering you.

Search engines

When pages on this site are added or changed, the server sends their addresses to IndexNow, which passes them to the search engines that take part. The message holds only those page addresses and a key that shows it came from this site. No personal data is sent.

Pages here link to other sites, such as violetre.io and the sources cited in notes. These are ordinary links. Once you follow one, that site's own privacy policy applies.

Your rights

Under UK GDPR you can ask for a copy of the personal data we hold about you, and ask us to correct it, erase it, restrict how we use it or stop using it. Where it applies, you can also ask for your data in a portable format. Email contact@violabs.co.uk or write to us at the registered office above. For the server logs, tell us the IP address you used and roughly when you visited, so we can find any entries. Apart from email you send us, the only personal data this site holds is in the server logs, and those are deleted after about two weeks.

You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office: ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint.
