Marble Relay privacy policy
What the Marble Relay app stores and sends: progress kept on your device, no internet connection, no adverts, no analytics and no accounts.
This policy covers Marble Relay, our puzzle game for iPhone and Android. It says what the app stores, what it sends and to whom, why, how long it is kept, and what you can ask us to do about it. The privacy notice for violabs.co.uk covers this website.
Who we are
Vio Labs LTD makes Marble Relay and is the controller of any personal data described here. The company is registered in England and Wales, company number 17466165, with its registered office at 128 City Road, London EC1V 2NX.
To ask about your data or make a request, email contact@violabs.co.uk or write to us at the registered office.
In short
- The app does not connect to the internet. Nothing it stores is sent to us or to anyone else.
- There are no accounts, no analytics, no crash reporting and no adverts. We do not sell personal data.
- Your progress and settings stay on your device.
- Puzzle codes and playtest exports leave the app only when you copy them and paste them somewhere yourself.
On your device
The app keeps these in a save file on your device only:
- the puzzles you have cleared, your finale mastery badges and your Daily Relay badges;
- puzzles you leave part way through, so you can carry on later, in the campaign, the Daily Relay, the finales and friend challenges;
- the code for your last winning replay;
- your settings: sound, reduced motion, and the marble, board and trail you have chosen.
The save file holds no name, no email address and no device identifier. Uninstalling the app deletes it.
On Android, the app opts out of Android's backup of app data, so the save file is not copied to your Google account. On iPhone, the app's folder can be seen in the Files app and through Finder or iTunes file sharing, and your iPhone's own backups, to iCloud or to a computer, may include it, as they do for other apps. We cannot see those backups.
No internet connection
The Android app does not ask for permission to use the internet, and neither version of the app makes network requests. There is no game server, no online play and no leaderboard. The Daily Relay picks its puzzles from your device's clock, without asking a server for the date.
Friend challenges
After a win, the game can show a short code for the puzzle and the angles of your winning shots. The code contains nothing else: no name, no ID and no details of your device. The Copy puzzle code button puts it on your device's clipboard, and you decide whether to paste it into a message. When you enter a code from a friend, the app checks it against the puzzles it already contains. Nothing is sent or looked up online.
Playtest exports
While you play, the app keeps a list of game events in memory: for example, when a puzzle starts, the angle of each shot, what the marble hit, and undo, restart and hints. Each entry has the time, the puzzle and a random session number made when the app opens. The list is not saved and is lost when the app closes.
In Settings, the Copy JSON export and Copy CSV export buttons put that list on your device's clipboard and save a copy in the app's exports folder on your device. It is never sent anywhere by the app. It exists so that people who test the game can choose to pass it on to us. If you send it to us, we use it only to improve the game, and we delete it when we no longer need it for that.
Adverts and purchases
The app has no adverts, no advertising software and no in-app purchases. It does not use Apple's App Tracking Transparency and does not read any advertising identifier. If a later version adds adverts or purchases, we will update this policy before that version is released.
What the app does not do
The app has no accounts and no sign-in. It runs no analytics and no crash reporting. It does not ask for your location, contacts, photos, camera or microphone. We do not sell personal data.
Children
Marble Relay collects no personal data from anyone who plays it, children included. If you send us an email, we handle it as described below.
How long it is kept
- On your device: until you uninstall the app, or longer in your own phone backups.
- The playtest event list: until the app closes, unless you export it. An exported copy stays in the app's folder until you uninstall the app.
- Email you send us, and any export you choose to send: only for as long as we need it to deal with what you asked.
Your rights
Under UK GDPR you can ask for a copy of the personal data we hold about you, and ask us to correct it, erase it, restrict how we use it or stop using it. Where it applies, you can also ask for your data in a portable format. Email contact@violabs.co.uk or write to us at the registered office above.
What Marble Relay stores never reaches us: it stays on your device, and you can delete it by uninstalling the app.
You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office: ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint.
Changes to this policy
If a new version of the app stores or sends anything new, we will update this policy before that version is released. The date of the last change is at the end of this page.
