Boltfront

Boltfront is a red versus blue strategy game for iPhone and Android, with robots, tanks and ground to capture. Made by Vio Labs.

Coming soon on iOS and Android. Boltfront is not in the App Store or on Google Play yet.

Red tanks and robot squads clash with the blue army at a bridge over an icy river, with gunfire, explosions and smoke.
A battle at a river crossing on Frozen Fork, an arctic map used for skirmishes and online duels.

What it is

Boltfront is a real-time strategy game. A red army and a blue army fight for a map. You command robot squads, tanks and guns, capture the flag that holds each sector, and build more units in the factories you hold. Every sector you hold makes all of your factories work faster.

Most battles are won by taking the enemy headquarters: destroy it, or hold infantry at its entrance with no defenders nearby. Other missions ask you to hold relays, escort carriers or survive.

It is played by touch: tap to select units and give orders, drag to move the map and pinch to zoom.

What is in it

  • Campaign. 50 missions in five settings: desert, volcanic, arctic, jungle and an industrial city, ten in each. You lead the red side. Each mission can be played on Easy, Normal or Hard, with three medals to earn at each level: victory, tempo and preservation.
  • Skirmish. Practice against the computer on the three maps used for online duels.
  • Online duels. One player against another. Make a private room and share its five-character code, or use Quick Match. iPhone and Android players play each other when they have the same version of the game. A duel lasts up to 15 minutes, after which it is a draw, and a rematch swaps sides.
  • Units. Eight kinds of robot squad, seven vehicles, among them three tanks, artillery and a crane, and four kinds of gun.
  • Crews and bridges. Every vehicle has a driver. Kill the crew and any infantry can take over the empty hull. Bridges can be destroyed, and cranes rebuild them.
  • Help. Tutorials, a field manual, and battles that are saved so you can carry on later.
A red base with its headquarters, robot factory and vehicle factory. The vehicle factory's production panel is open, and a yellow rally path leads new tanks out to a waypoint.
A base on Twin Crossing, a desert map. The vehicle factory is building light tanks, which follow the rally path.
A red army of tanks and robots holds a captured flag between two factories on a jungle road, while a flock of colourful birds pecks nearby.
Mangrove Foundry, mission 34 of the campaign. Red holds 6 of 13 sectors, so its factories build 1.4 times as fast.

Price and adverts

Boltfront is free, with adverts. A free player may see one advert after a battle, never during one, and at most one every two minutes. You can also choose to watch a video for a small reward: an extra rifle squad when you retry a campaign mission you lost, or a paint scheme for your units. Watching is never required.

A one-off purchase, Full Game Ad Free, removes every advert. Its owners get the same rewards without a video. Every mission, unit and difficulty is free either way, and buying changes nothing in combat.

Privacy

Boltfront has no accounts, no analytics and no crash reporting. Your progress stays on your device. Online duels go through our game server at violabs.co.uk. The free version shows adverts from Google AdMob. The Boltfront privacy policy sets out what the app stores, what it sends and to whom.
